The fine print
Privacy policy.

Brap & Boards is a personal travel journal about dirt bike, snow and surf trips, written by me, Lindsey. This page explains what information the site collects, why, and what you can do about it. The short version: I don’t sell your data, I only collect what I need to run the site, and you can ask me to delete anything you’ve sent.
What I collect
When you contact me
If you use the contact form, I receive your name, your email address, the topic you pick and your message. It comes to my inbox as an email so I can reply. I don’t add you to any mailing list and I don’t share your message with anyone.
When you leave a comment
If you comment on a post, the site stores the name, email address and website (if any) you enter, along with your comment, your IP address and your browser’s user agent. This helps with spam detection. Your email address is never shown publicly. Your name and comment are.
WordPress may create an anonymized string from your email address (a “hash”) and send it to Gravatar to check whether you have a profile picture there. Gravatar’s privacy policy is at automattic.com/privacy. If you check the box to save your details, a cookie stores your name and email so you don’t have to retype them next time. It lasts one year.
Analytics
I use Google Analytics to understand how people find and use the site, like which posts get read and roughly where visitors come from. It uses cookies and collects information such as pages viewed, time on page, device and browser type, and an approximate location. I can’t see who you are from this. You can learn how Google uses this data at policies.google.com/technologies/partner-sites, and you can opt out with the Google Analytics opt-out add-on.
Basic technical logs
Like every website, the server that hosts this site (Hostinger) automatically records basic technical information such as IP addresses and the pages requested. This is used for security and keeping the site running. The site also uses caching to load faster.
Affiliate links
Some links on this site are affiliate or referral links. If you click one and buy or book something, I may earn a small commission at no extra cost to you. When you click these links, the partner’s site may set its own cookies to track the referral. This is how they know to credit me.
- Amazon. As an Amazon Associate, I earn from qualifying purchases. Amazon’s privacy notice is at amazon.com/privacy.
- Hotel and booking links are powered by Stay22, which may convert links to partners such as Booking.com, Expedia and Vrbo. See stay22.com/privacy-policy.
- Referral links, such as onX Offroad, may use a referral code tied to my account.
I only recommend gear and places I’ve actually used or would use myself.
Embedded content
Posts may include embedded content such as videos or Instagram posts. Embedded content from other sites behaves the same way as if you visited that site directly, and those sites may collect data about you, use cookies and track your interaction with the embed.
Cookies
Cookies are small files stored by your browser. This site and its partners use them for analytics, remembering comment details, and crediting affiliate referrals. You can block or delete cookies in your browser settings. The site will still work, though some features may not.
How long I keep things
Contact form messages stay in my email until I delete them. Comments and their details are kept indefinitely so follow-up comments can be approved automatically. Analytics data is kept according to Google Analytics’ retention settings.
Your choices and rights
Depending on where you live (for example California, under the CCPA, or the EU and UK, under the GDPR), you may have the right to see the personal information I hold about you, ask me to correct or delete it, or object to how it’s used. I don’t sell or share your personal information for money. To make a request, just contact me and I’ll take care of it.
Kids
This site isn’t directed at children under 13, and I don’t knowingly collect information from them.
Changes
If anything here changes, like adding a newsletter, I’ll update this page and the date at the top.
